Line 1: Line 1:
1971-07-29 [[Alfredo Marcano]] w rtd 10 (15) [[Hiroshi Kobayashi]], Prefectural Gym, Aomori, Japan - WBA. Referee: Yusaku Yoshida. Although hectic from the start the fight really came to life in the ninth when the champion forced a mandatory ‘eight’ count after battering Marcano (128¾) against the ropes with a battery of lefts and rights to the body. Quickly recovering, Marcano dropped Kobayashi (129¼) heavily with a right uppercut and with the champion still ‘out’ the bell came to his rescue at ‘nine’. There was no way that Kobayashi was going to recover from that and fighting on sheer instinct he was smashed to the floor three times in the tenth before his corner threw in the towel and the fight was called off on the 1.25 mark.
