1971-08-21 Vicente Rondon w pts 15 Eddie Jones, New Circus Bullring, Caracas, Venezuela - WBA. Referee: Jesus Celis. Scorecards: 148-144, 148-145, 146-145. In what was a hard-hitting affair from start to finish, Jones (173¾) was able to withstand the heavier punches of the champion to come firing back with solid blows of his own. The title might well have changed hands had Jones not been cut badly over the left eye in the fourth as it bothered him from thereon and was continually being inspected by the doctor. It was a disappointing performance by Rondon (175), who had looked ordinary in a non-title bout just a few weeks earlier and had failed to shake off the lethargy.
