1971-10-10 Ricardo Arredondo w co 10 (15) Yoshiaki Numata, Miyagi Sports Centre, Sendai, Japan - WBC. Referee: Hiroyuki Tezaki. Making his second attempt to win a version of the world title, Arredondo (130) proved he had learned lessons from his earlier failure when pressing Numata (130) strongly from the fourth round onwards. Although Numata was well in the fight coming in to the tenth, he was dropped twice before being counted out after 2.17 of the session, despite coming back strongly after the second knockdown when Arredondo looked to have burnt himself out. It was a barrage of lefts and rights which ultimately brought the contest to an end.
