1971-12-14 Jose Napoles w pts 15 Hedgemon Lewis, Inglewood Forum, Los Angeles, California, USA - WORLD. Referee: Larry Rozadilla. Scorecards: 8-6, 9-4, 8-7. Having built up an early lead, Napoles (145¼) eventually became frustrated at his inability to knock his challenger out and began to become arm weary from his efforts. Coming into the final third, Napoles slashed away with both sweeping and short left hooks to no avail as the speedy Lewis (140¾) either took his best shots or cleverly avoided them. In the 14th Lewis even staggered Napoles with a right flush on the jaw, but that was it and although he had narrowed the points deficit it wasn’t enough.
