1972-03-04 Carlos Monzon w rsc 5 (15) Denny Moyer, Sports Palace, Rome, Italy - WORLD. Referee: Lorenzo Fortunato. Holding his own for the opening four rounds, banging in left hooks and solid rights and boxing behind a high guard, Moyer (158¾) made things difficult for the champion. Although Monzon (159) got in some heavy blows Moyer always came straight back and in the third he really shook the Argentinian up with a smashing right to the jaw. In the fifth, however, Moyer was forced to take a compulsory eight count as Monzon (159) cut loose and on getting up and under pressure again the referee called it off at 1.05 of the session. Afterwards Moyer stated that Monzon had wrestled him to the ground and he was fighting back at the stoppage.
