1972-06-28 Mando Ramos w pts 15 Pedro Carrasco, Sports Palace, Madrid, Spain - WBC. Referee: Ray Solis. Scorecards: 144-142, 146-142, 142-145. Fighting for the third time to decide the vacant WBC title, Ramos (134¾) and Carrasco (134½) soon got down to business and the latter was sensationally floored in both the first and second rounds. Despite the setbacks, Carrasco came right back with spearing left jabs and good combinations, while Ramos found the left hook to be his key weapon. There was never much in it, but after Carrasco was cut over the left eye in the 11th the fight lost some bite before Ramos came back strongly to win the final two rounds and the verdict. The WBC continued to recognise Ramos as champion despite protests by the Spanish Boxing Federation that the verdict be annulled after post-fight dope tests on the champion proved positive.
