1972-10-03 [[Koichi Wajima]] w co 3 (15) [[Matt Donovan]], Nihon University Auditorium, Tokyo, Japan - WBA/WBC. Referee: Takeo Ugo. Wading in to Donovan (151¾) almost from the opening gong, throwing lefts and rights to the body, the champion never let up in his quest for a quick win and took the first round by a wide margin. It was much of the same in the second round as Wajima (150½) continued to go for Donovan with hard punches to head and body, and apart from landing with a few straight lefts the latter was again very much on the run. There would be no let up in the third as Wajima kept his work rate going, and after 53 seconds of the session Donovan was counted out, having been dropped by a cracking left hook to the jaw, following a flurry of heavy blows.
