1972-11-10 Rodolfo Gonzalez w rtd 12 (15) Chango Carmona, Sports Arena, Los Angeles, California, USA - WBC. Referee: John Thomas. Carrying the fight to the champion from the opening bell, Gonzalez (132½) used a brilliant left lead to score points and to dictate the way things progressed. Staggered and punished in the second round after Gonzalez set up a steady attack, Carmona (134) was never able to break down his fellow-Mexican’s defences with heavy hooks, being forced to take a steady battering throughout. Although he never stopped trying, at the end of the 12th Carmona’s corner retired their man when it was obvious that he was at the end of his tether and was carrying damage over both eyes.
