1972-12-02 Bruno Arcari w pts 15 Everaldo Costa Azevedo, Bacoruffini Sports Palace, Turin, Italy - WBC. Referee: Jean Deswert. After getting off to a slow start with little action during the opening three rounds, Arcari (140) began to drive forward and was soon dominating Costa Azevedo (139) with heavy body attacks, especially when the latter was against the ropes. Although the taller Costa Azevedo did reasonably well and cut the southpaw champion over the right eye in the 14th, he was always under pressure, stating afterwards that he was unable to get himself going. Both men were cautioned, Costa Azevedo for butting and Arcari for the use of elbows, before the latter ultimately gained a clear-cut unanimous points decision, but it was not one of his better nights. Having agreed to defend against Roger Zami, the European champion, for whatever reason the match never came off and after several months of dallying around a title defence was secured against Jorgen Hansen for November 1973.
