1973-03-06 Ricardo Arredondo w pts 15 Apollo Yoshio, Kyuden Gym, Fukuoka City, Japan - WBC. Referee: Jim Rondeau. Scorecards: 70-68, 71-69, 74-71.Having worked the champion’s body in the first round Yoshio (129¼) again took the fight to Arredondo (129¼) in the next session with hard rights to the head. Thus the pattern of the fight was set, with Yoshio boring in while Arredondo made use of his reach despite missing frequently. Although Yoshio appeared to be in front at the two-thirds stage, Arredondo made his move in the 11th as he pressed on with telling lefts and rights to the challenger’s face. At the final bell, with Yoshio in some trouble, Arredondo just about deserved the decision in what had been a hard fight.
