1973-07-14 [[Ernesto Marcel]] w rtd 11 (15) [[Antonio Gomez]], New City Gym, Panama City, Panama - WBA. Referee: Isaac Herrera. Making a bright start, Marcel (126) swarmed all over the challenger for round after round, sending in volleys of blows to head and body, and occasionally landing with stiff jabs and solid rights to the head for good measure. Having held on or retreated to the ropes for ten rounds, Gomez (125½) opened up in the 11th only to be picked apart with blows being fired in from all angles, and at the end of the session it came as no surprise when his handlers retired him.
