1973-10-27 Rodolfo Gonzalez w rsc 10 (15) Antonio Puddu, Sports Centre, Los Angeles, California, USA - WBC. Referee: John Thomas. Making a cautious start despite being recognised as an aggressive fighter in European rings, the challenger became even more wary after being dropped for the mandatory ‘eight’ in the second round. With Gonzalez (134) lacking some of his normal spark, Puddu (134) made a difficult target, but by the eighth he was beginning to tire and with him now troubled by damage to both eyes the end looked to be in sight. In the tenth it was apparent that the fight was nearing its end and after the referee inspected Puddu’s injuries during the session during the interval he deemed them to be too bad for him to continue.
