1973-12-04 Antonio Cervantes w pts 15 Lion Furuyama, New City Gym, Panama City, Panama - WBA. Referee: Jesus Celis. Scorecards: 148-140, 147-141, 149-141. In a bruising battle, Cervantes (139¾) piled up the points as he made good use of his better boxing ability and longer reach, while the challenger looked to move inside to get his punches off. Several times Cervantes was staggered, but it was not until the 14th round that Furuyama (140), despite boxing on with a completely closed right eye and damage to his left, really got to his man and had him in trouble sporadically right through to the final bell. Although Furuyama twice hit the deck, they were classed as slips and did not affect the scoring.
