1974-09-12 Guts Ishimatsu drew 15 Tury Pineda, Aichi Prefecural Gym, Nagoya, Japan - WBC. Referee: Takeshi Makimura. Scorecards: 74-73, 71-74, 72-72. Making his first defence, Ishimatsu (135) was hard pressed to hang on to his title as the unheralded Pineda (135) contested the fight every inch of the way. Although there were no knockdowns it was excitement all the way for the fans as first one man would edge in front before the other came back strongly to take up the running. It was a bruising battle of attrition with Pineda, cut over both eyes in the sixth and seventh, respectively, going close and certainly warranting another crack at the championship.
