1974-11-23 Alexis Arguello w co 13 (15) Ruben Olivares, Inglewood Forum, Los Angeles, California, USA - WBA. Referee: Dick Young. After both men made cautious starts, by the fifth round the taller Arguello (124½) was marginally in front by dint of good left-hand work before the champion came with a rush in the middle rounds to shake him up with heavy blows to head and body. However, unable to take Arguello out, Olivares (125½) began to tire rapidly from the tenth onwards and in the 13th he was put down for a count of ‘eight’ before being counted out on the 1.20 mark, having been dropped heavily from a combination of left and right hooks.
