1974-11-28 Guts Ishimatsu w co 12 (15) Rodolfo Gonzalez, Prefectural Gym, Osaka, Japan - WBC. Referee: Yusaku Yoshida. Trying to regain his former title, Gonzalez (133¼) was out to prove that his previous fight against Ishimatsu (135) was a fluke and came about because of weight-making difficulties. This time round he began aggressively and was getting to the champion before being cut over the left eye in the fifth round, but thereafter was careful to protect the optic from further damage, especially after the doctor continued to check the injury out. Nevertheless, Gonzalez was well in the contest coming into the 12th before being staggered by a cracking right to the head and counted out at 2.23 of the session following another smashing right hand.
