1975-02-27 Guts Ishimatsu w pts 15 Ken Buchanan, Municipal Gym, Tokyo, Japan - WBC. Referee: Dick Young. Scorecards: 144-142, 145-144, 149-141. Making a bright start, Buchanan (133¾) quickly got the left jab going before being closed down by the champion with two-fisted attacks to the head and body, prior to coming back with good punches of his own during the next few rounds. That was the pattern of the fight, but unfortunately for Buchanan his left eye began to swell up in the fifth and he found it a severe handicap in landing accurately, many of his blows being mistimed. It was still close, however, but Ishimatsu (135) received the decision on the basis of quantity, while the better quality blows were delivered by the Scot.
