1975-05-07 Miguel De Oliviera w pts 15 Jose Manuel Duran, Louis 11 Stadium, Monte Carlo, Monaco - WBC. Referee: Herbert Tomser. Scorecards: 149-146, 149-143, 147-142. Contesting the inaugural WBC championship contest at the weight, De Oliviera (154) very nearly ended the contest in the first round when he dropped Duran (154) for ‘nine’ with a cracking right to the jaw, but failed to follow up his advantage prior to being badly cut over the left eye in the second. Boxing cleverly, Duran got himself back in the fight as De Oliviera’s injury steadily worsened, but in the eighth he was counted on again after running into some heavy shots before picking himself up. However, by now it was apparent that Duran did not have the power to see De Oliviera off and the latter backed the Spaniard up continually to run home a good winner on the cards.
