1975-07-05 Alfredo Escalera w co 2 (15) Kuniaki Shibata, Kasamatsu Gym, Mito, Japan - WBC. Referee: Ken Morita. Following a quiet first round, with both men studying each other, Shibata (129¾) came out for the second session intent on nullifying the challenger’s four-inch-reach advantage by getting inside to work the body. Although they looked to be the right tactics Escalera (128¾) had other ideas, and as the round drew to a close he unleashed a tremendous right to the jaw before pounding Shibata to the canvas where he was counted out on the 2.56 second mark.
