1976-07-01 [[Alfredo Escalera]] w pts 15 [[Buzzsaw Yamabe]], Kashiwa Gym, Nara, Japan - WBC. Referee: Rudy Ortega. Scorecards: 146-140, 146-141, 147-146. Following their earlier controversial fight this one went the distance, with Escalera (130) eventually hammering out a gory points win over the southpaw Yamabe (130). After two relatively quiet rounds Yamabe went to work on the champion’s body in the third but by the fourth Escalera was letting his punches go with some success. Escalera had his best session in the sixth when he let loose with body blows before being cut over the right eye in the seventh, courtesy of an accidental butt. It was then that Escalera changed tactics by starting to move, and although the next few rounds were dominated by Yamabe’s body attacks, which incurred two points lost for low blows, the remainder of the contest saw the Puerto Rican countering and moving to pick up the points.
