1976-07-02 [[Juan Antonio Guzman]] w pts 15 [[Jaime Rios]], Quisqueya Stadium, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic - WBA. Referee: Isidro Rodriguez. In taking the title on a split decision, Guzman (108) concentrated on the body after Rios (108) had used his height and reach to build up a good points lead. From the 11th round it was all Guzman, who landed the heavier blows, mainly downstairs, and his victory was cheered to the rafters by the locals. Strangely, in the 14th session, the doctor advised the referee to stop the action due to Rios having sustained a badly-gashed eye, but was overruled.
