1976-08-28 Carlos Zarate w rsc 12 (15) Paul Ferreri, Inglewood Forum, Los Angeles, California, USA - WBC. Referee: Richard Steele. Stepping into uncharted territory the heavy-hitting Zarate (117) went more than ten rounds for the first time, and although the contest was all one-way he was unable to put the teak-tough Ferreri (117½) down. The brave challenger showed plenty of guts, but once his right eye was cut in the eighth it was only going to be a matter of time. Eventually, the referee called it off at 2.44 of round 12, with the Australian extremely tired, blood pouring from the wound and Zarate looking ready for the kill.
