1976-11-30 Alfredo Escalera w pts 15 Tyrone Everett, The Spectrum, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - WBC. Referee: Ray Solis. Scorecards: 146-143, 145-143, 146-148. In a battle pitting the champion’s power against the speed and skill of Everett (130), a shifty southpaw, there were no knockdowns and very few quality blows landed. The men made a cautious start, both being cut over their right eyes in the third round before Escalera (128½) got going in the fifth with some wild blows to the head. The eighth and ninth rounds saw Everett picking Escalera apart with pin-point counters, but the action then began to drag until the latter lifted himself in the 12th, boring in with lefts and rights. When the American received a bad cut on his forehead in the 13th, it was an injury that basically decided the fight. Subsequently, Everett was all too concerned at protecting himself, and while Escalera went all out for the kayo, mainly throwing single shots, he just about did enough.
