1977-01-15 Sam Serrano w co 11 (15) Alberto Herrera, The Bullring, Guayaquil, Ecuador - WBA. Referee: Marty Denkin. Although Herrera (128½) started well, flooring Serrano (129½) for an automatic ‘eight’ count with a solid right cross in the very first round, He then stood back and allowed the champion to recover. Following that, the southpaw Herrera was mainly on the end of Serrano’s right cross and although he did well in the fifth session with an all-out body attack he was pretty much on the defensive from thereon. Dropped for ‘eight’ in the eighth, Herrera looked all in and took a steady battering in the next two rounds prior to being dropped flat on his back from a heavy right uppercut and counted out at 2.17 of the 11th.
