5 February Carlos Zarate w rsc 3 (15) Fernando Cabanela, Four Roads Bullring, Mexico City, Mexico - WBC. Referee: George Latka. Making his third attempt to win a world title, Cabanela (118) claimed that it was a butt that caused the damage to his right eye in the second round, but by then Zarate (117) was into his stride and landing well with left hooks. Unfortunately for Cabanela, the eye injury worsened in the third and the referee was forced to call a halt on the 1.30 mark.
