1977-03-12 Pipino Cuevas w rsc 2 (15) Miguel Angel Campanino, Four Roads Bullring, Mexico City, Mexico - WBA. Referee: Isaac Herrera. The bout began with the champion targeting the body with left hooks and right hands as Campanino (146½) defended his chin with a high guard and tried to distance himself from heavy shots. Having worked his opponent out, Cuevas (146½) started the second round strongly with body attacks and as Campanino’s arms came down he was hit with heavy rights to the head, the last being a smash to the temple that saw him take an ‘eight’ count. When ordered to continue Campanino dropped his hands, whereupon the referee halted the contest. The finish was timed at 2.05.
