1977-03-15 Eckhard Dagge drew 15 Maurice Hope, National Hall, Berlin, Germany - WBC. Referee: Dino Ambrosini. Scorecards: 145-144, 142-145, 145-145. For round after round, Hope (152) landed with his southpaw jab and it wasn’t until the champion began to work out an effective way of dealing with it in the second half of the contest that he began to cut back the deficit. Although Dagge (153), badly marked around both eyes, hurt Hope on several occasions with heavy rights to the head, he was unable to follow up and the latter was soon back in his jabbing routine. Towards the end, the German threw far more punches in a desperate bid to knock Hope out, but he failed to achieve that and most expert bystanders felt that he didn’t deserve the draw when it was announced.
