1977-06-17 Saensak Muangsurin w pts 15 Perico Fernandez, Sports Palace, Madrid, Spain - WBC. Referee: Jay Edson. Defending his title in Spain against the man he won it from presented few difficulties for Muangsurin (140), who won all but the sixth and 15th rounds when Fernandez (135) opened up with hooks from both hands. In the main, Fernandez was happy to stay on the ropes and hold when he had to rather than go all out in an effort to get back his old belt, while the southpaw champion failed to take advantage of the situation. After the unanimous decision was announced, the referee was knocked to the floor when he was hit by a missile and the ring almost invaded by a group of fans who somehow felt that Fernandez should have won. Thankfully, the trouble was soon quelled.
