1977-06-25 Esteban De Jesus w co 11 (15) Vicente Mijares Saldivar, Loubriel Stadium, Bayamon, Puerto Rico - WBC. Referee: Raymond Baldeyrou. Although controlling the fight from the opening bell as Mijares Saldivar (134½) raced around the ring to avoid taking punches, De Jesus (135) merely bided his time and waited for the challenger to tire. Cut over the right eye in the fifth and twice warned by the referee to throw more punches, Mijares Saldivar was forced to get more involved and was hurt in the eighth before surprising De Jesus in the ninth with a series of jabs and a solid right uppercut. Mijares Saldivar was now in attacking mode, but it proved to be his undoing as De Jesus hurt him in the tenth and then dropped him with body punches, followed by a left hook to the jaw, which saw him take the count at 2.20 of the 11th.
