1977-08-06 Pipino Cuevas w co 2 (15) Clyde Gray, Olympic Auditorium, Los Angeles, California, USA - WBA. Referee: Chuck Hassett. Having rocked the challenger with a cracking left to the jaw in the opening round, Cuevas (145½) continued to seek an early win as he went forward with both fists in a bid to steamroller his rival. Using all of his experience Gray (147) somehow managed to get through the session, but he had been badly hurt. It came as no surprise when he was counted out on the 1.26 mark of the second after being flattened by a left to the jaw. Although the Commonwealth champion fought gamely, ultimately he could not cope with Cuevas’ power.
