1977-11-05 Antonio Cervantes w pts 15 Adriano Marrero, Cesar Giron Bullring, Maracay, Venezuela - WBA. Referee: Luis Sulbaran. Scorecards: 148-140, 148-146, 147-142. Having outscored Marrero (139½) over ten rounds earlier in the year, Cervantes (139¾) was happy to give crack at the title this time round. Both men landed solid left and right combinations, with Marrero mainly concentrating on the body while the champion used the full target and was generally more accurate. There were no knockdowns, but the better quality blows came from Cervantes despite him damaging his right hand.
