1977-11-26 [[Soo-Hwan Hong]] w co 3 (15) [[Hector Carrasquilla]], New City Gym, Panama City, Panama - WBA. Referee: Jay Edson. In what was the inaugural championship fight at the weight for the WBA, the contest was made after Hong beat Japan’s Futaro Tanaka (w pts 12 in Seoul, South Korea on 10 October) and Carrasquilla defeated Venezuela’s Jesus Esparragoza (w co 3 at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum, San Juan, Puerto Rico on 27 August) in official eliminators. The fight itself, an explosive affair, saw Hong (121¾) battered to the floor four times in the second round before coming back strongly in the third to stagger Carrasquilla (121) with a right and then send him crashing, via lefts and rights to the head, to be counted out at 1.04.
