1978-01-07 Mate Parlov w co 9 (15) Miguel Cuello, Sports Palace, Milan, Italy - WBC. Referee: Sid Nathan. Formerly an Olympic and World amateur champion, Parlov (173½) had control right from the opening bell and although Cuello (174) was on the attack throughout he was unable to inflict too much damage on his adversary, other than in the eighth when landing with a heavy right. From the fourth onwards, the southpaw challenger was landing the much cleaner shots and was boxing effectively on the back foot as Cuello concentrated on the body. With Cuello tiring fast, Parlov stepped up the pace in the ninth and a solid straight left to the chin sent the Argentinian down to be counted out on the 2.43 mark.
