1978-01-07 Mate Parlov w co 9 (15) Miguel Angel Cuello, Sports Palace, Milan, Italy - WBC. Referee: Sid Nathan. Parlov (173½), a former Olympic and World amateur champion, had control right from the opening bell. Although Cuello (174) was on the attack throughout he was unable to inflict too much damage on his adversary, other than in the eighth after landing with a heavy right. From the fourth onwards the southpaw challenger was producing the much cleaner shots, boxing effectively on the back foot as Cuello concentrated on the body. With Cuello tiring fast, when Parlov stepped up the pace in the ninth a solid straight left to the chin sent the Argentinian down to be counted out on the 2.43 mark.
