An exciting fight while it lasted, Gomez (121½) finally got to Kobayashi (121) in the third round with a terrific left hook to the jaw following a sustained bout of body punching between the pair. Although the game challenger, who never once took a backward step, managed to get to his feet he was really in no condition to continue, but was allowed to do so before being dropped twice more, the last time incurring the full count timed at 1.25 of the session.
