1978-03-04 [[Pipino Cuevas]] w rsc 9 (15) [[Harold Weston]], Olympic Auditorium, Los Angeles, California, USA - WBA. Referee: Marty Denkin. Having got through the opening two rounds safely after nearly being floored in both, Weston (146½) came back well when occasionally outboxing Cuevas (146¼), but his punches carried little weight and the champion began to walk through them. Several rounds saw both men going head-to-head, but by the seventh Weston’s left eye was damaged and he was beginning to ship punches.  Although he had a good eighth round, Weston absorbed a terrific beating throughout the ninth, but Cuevas was unable to drop him and at the end of the session the doctor advised the referee to stop the contest due to the challenger’s badly-cut mouth.
