1978-03-18 [[Jorge Lujan]] w rtd 11 (15) [[Roberto Rubaldino]], Hemisfair Arena, San Antonio, Texas, USA - WBA. Referee: Sergio Tulio Ley. Boxing well for the opening eight rounds, Rubaldino (118) gave the champion plenty to think about with his southpaw stance and was even credited with a first-round knockdown. However, from the ninth session onwards Lujan (117½) came on strong, landing solid lefts and rights, and after chasing his rival around the ring and dropping him with a right-left-right combination the fight came to an end at 1.01 when one of Rubaldino’s cornermen jumped into the ring in order to retire him in the 11th.
