1978-06-02 Wilfredo Gomez w rsc 3 (12) Sakad Petchyindee, Main Stadium, Korat, Thailand - WBC. Referee: Ray Solis. On a night where tragedy struck after ten people were killed and some 300 hundred injured when a stand collapsed, Petchyindee (122) became an early victim to the hard-punching Gomez (121½) when he was unable to keep the champion at bay. Making a quick start, Gomez climbed all over the Thai, putting his man down with a heavy left-right in the second round, and although there was no count the 40,000 crowd could already sense that it would be an early night. Thus when Gomez lashed into Petchyindee with vicious lefts and rights in the third session without reply it came as no surprise when the third man called a halt to proceedings at the 2.32 marker to save the brave youngster from taking further unnecessary punishment.
