1978-06-03 [[Alexis Arguello]] w co 1 (15) [[Diego Alcala]], Roberto Clemente Coliseum, San Juan, Puerto Rico - WBC. Referee: Roberto Ramirez. Once again Arguello (129) proved what a superb fighting machine he was when knocking out his challenger after just 119 seconds had elapsed having hardly raising a sweat. For the first minute or so, Alcala (130) moved around confidently outside of the firing line, but all that changed after Arguello manoeuvred him into a corner where he was belaboured by a series of solid blows to the head, interspersed by a couple of cracking uppercuts, that dropped him in a heap to be counted out.

Arguello’s next challenger would be The Ring magazine's fifth-rated Arturo Leon, who had won just 19 of 35 fights, but had got his high ranking mainly due to wins over Jimmy Heair (twice) and Bobby Chacon.
