1978-09-09 Pipino Cuevas w rsc 2 (15) Pete Ranzany, Hughes Stadium, Sacramento, California, USA - WBA. Referee: Isidro Rodriguez. Coming to the ring holding a good record, Ranzany (146), determined to force the fight against the hard-hitting champion, started by doing just that as both men let their punches go. However, having picked it up in the second where he left off in the first Ranzany found himself beaten to the punch before being dropped by a solid left hook. Although getting up, after Ranzany was quickly trapped against the ropes he was sent down again by a right to the head. It was clear that the fight was almost over, and with Cuevas (146¼) tearing in for the kill as the dazed challenger found his feet for the second time the referee called a halt on the 1.57 mark.
