1978-10-28 [[Wilfredo Gomez]] w rsc 5 (15) [[Carlos Zarate]], Roberto Clemente Coliseum, San Juan, Puerto Rico - WBC. Referee: Harry Gibbs. The first three rounds saw both men jockeying for position, but it was Gomez (122) who impressed more with fast hands and good movement while the taller Zarate (122) looked to get his big punches off. The first knockdown was scored by Gomez, who cracked in a left hook after the challenger had missed in the fourth, and he twice repeated the dose before the bell brought the session to a close. Following that, another smashing left hook downed Zarate in the fifth and although the towel was thrown in the referee disregarded it before calling it off after 44 seconds when it was clear that Zarate was through for the night.
