1979-01-09 Eusebio Pedroza w rtd 13 (15) Royal Kobayashi, Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan - WBA. Referee: Isidro Rodriguez. With five inches reach advantage, the champion made good use of the jab before moving up a gear to ultimately dismantle Kobayashi (126) with sharp lefts and rights to the head and right uppercuts to the body. Although there were no knockdowns, Kobayashi was gradually broken up and following a last ditch attack in the ninth and tenth rounds he took a severe battering from Pedroza (126), especially in the 11th, and with his left eye badly damaged he was retired by his corner at the end of the 13th.
