1979-06-22 Larry Holmes w rsc 12 (15) Mike Weaver, Madison Square Garden, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA - WBC. Referee: Harold Valan. With reach advantage the champion was soon into his stride, spearing Weaver (202) with lefts and rights, but in the fourth he was embarrassed when sent down by a left-right and although it was deemed by the referee to be a slip to most it appeared to be a knockdown. For the next few sessions Weaver came right back into contention as he took the fight to Holmes (215) and in the ninth and tenth the latter was forced to cover up under a hail of heavy blows. In the 11th Holmes finally reasserted himself and towards the end of the round he had Weaver over from a cracking right uppercut that all but won the fight. Saved by the bell, Weaver came out for the 12th looking very shaky and following a battery of lefts and rights that had him all over the place the referee stopped the contest 44 seconds into the session.
