1979-07-21 Eusebio Pedroza w rsc 12 (15) Ruben Olivares, Sam Houston Coliseum, Houston, Texas, USA - WBA. Referee: Davy Pearl. Starting slowly, the champion circled Olivares (125½) before finding his mark with left jabs and solid rights to the latter’s head. By the fifth round with Olivares showing signs of damage to the eyes and nose it only seemed a matter of time before the once great fighter was finished off. Time and again he was met with punches thrown from both hands by Pedroza (126), and in the 12th he finally succumbed after being sent down following a steady barrage of blows that were not defended. Olivares was then rescued by the referee who, like everyone else, had seen enough. The time was 1.42.
