1980-02-09 Lupe Pintor w rsc 12 (15) Alberto Sandoval, Olympic Auditorium, Los Angeles, California, USA - WBC. Referee: Carlos Padilla. Despite there being no knockdowns, this was a hard-hitting affair with the unfortunate Sandoval (117½) more often than not on the receiving end, although showing good evasive skills and much grit. However, Pintor (116) would not be denied and by the tenth round he was walking through Sandoval, the finish seeming to be just around the corner. The 12th round would be the last as Sandoval, who was being badly punished and clearly fading, was rescued by the referee on the 1.19 mark after the latter’s corner were seen to be voicing concern for their man.
