1980-02-23 Saoul Mamby w co 14 (15) Sang-Hyun Kim, Changchung Gym, Seoul, South Korea - WBC. Referee: Harry Gibbs. Both men made a cautious start to the contest as they felt each other out for the opening two sessions and even when the action took off it remained close. The champion was obviously dangerous with body punches and southpaw jabs, while Mamby (139) was proving difficult to nail down with his ducking and clever defence. In rounds seven and eight, Mamby had points deducted after Kim’s left eye started to close from the effects of butting and was also told that he would be disqualified if he did it again. However, the damage was done. With Kim (140) suffering from a lack of vision, Mamby came on strong to take the 13th by a clear margin to go ahead on the scoring and it was no surprise when Kim came out recklessly for the 14th as looked to make any leeway up. Although initially doing well in the session as he met Mamby punch for punch, Kim eventually walked into a straight right that deposited him on the floor and saw him counted out at 1.44 in the act of rising.
