1980-03-31 Marvin Camel w pts 15 Mate Parlov, Caesar’s Palace, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBC. Referee: Ferd Hernandez. Scorecards: 144-141, 148-141, 149-141. Yet again the two southpaws fought for the right to become the division’s first champion and this time round it was Camel (185¾), a member of the Flathead Indian tribe, who took the fight by the scruff of the neck to win the unanimous decision. Parlov (189) made the better start, hammering in rights and lefts, and from the fourth round onwards both men were carrying bad cuts – Camel over the right eye and Parlov under his right eye. Starting to find the range in the fifth, by the ninth Camel was in full flow and he was credited with taking five of the last six sessions, outpunching Parlov and almost having his rival over in the 14th.
