Although the southpaw challenger fought aggressively during the first three rounds, twice rocking Cuevas (146½) with left hooks, by the fourth the latter was beginning to get to him with solid body shots. The tide of change came in the fifth when, following an exchange of jabs, Volbrecht (146¾) missed badly with a sweeping right and Cuevas, ducking inside, crashed home a vicious left to the chin to put the South African down for the count, timed at 1.19.
