1980-06-07 Jim Watt w pts 15 Howard Davis, Ibrox Park, Glasgow, Scotland - WBC. Referee: Carlos Padilla. Scorecards: 145-144, 149-142, 147-144. Jabbing accurately with the southpaw lead Watt (134¾) started as he intended by pushing his challenger on to the back foot and minimising his hand speed. Although the flashy Davis (133½) threw plenty of leather he was missing too much and was finding it difficult to pierce Watt’s tight guard. After nine rounds, Davis finally changed tactics by staying closer to the champion and although continuing to take stiff rights to the head he had more success from thereon to the final bell, but Watt always had something to spare.
