1980-06-28 [[Alan Minter]] w rtd 8 (15) [[Vito Antuofermo]], The Arena, Wembley, London, England - WORLD. Referee: Octavio Meyran. With [[Marvin Hagler]] waiting in the wings, the new champion had to get his return match against Antuofermo (159¼) out of the way first and he did so when forcing the latter to retire at the end of the eighth round. Minter (160) was on top all the way and as early as the opening session he had the American cut. It was soon clear that Antuofermo was fighting a losing battle as Minter avoided his rival’s reckless charges to counter with solid left crosses and right hooks and as the fight moved on the Englishman piled up the points with these tactics. Round after round Minter battered away an Antuofermo’s features and with the latter’s face a mass of cuts and abrasions it was no surprise when he was pulled out.
